West Dundee, IL, Tuesday, July 6, 2010 – Davis Business Solutions, a full service provider of business applications for multiple industries announced today it has entered into an agreement to acquire the assets of Service Management Group, Inc. (SMG), of Hattiesburg, MS. This includes the acquisition of SMG’s EMWeb, Warranty Central and Business Central. SMG is the leading provider of parts lookup and warranty systems in the foodservice market. Through this move, SMG’s customers will quickly benefit from all the strength and stability Davis Business Solutions has to offer, as well as several new combined innovations. “We intend to invest over one million dollars in resources to the EMWeb product alone, taking it to an entirely new level,” said Jennifer Davis, President of Davis Business Solutions. In addition, SMG’s Warranty Central customers will be treated to a momentous leap forward in added functionality with Davisware Global Warranty. President of SMG, Ross Arroyo said, “I was pleased to find a partner that can build upon the exciting ideas behind Business Central and add them to their time-tested business system platform. The combination will create a powerful new vehicle to offer customers the content they want in a way that expands the quality, value and convenience they need."
Both companies have had a long standing commitment to serving the industry and participating with trade groups like CFESA. DBS will not only work hard to smoothly transition SMG customers, but provide several new capabilities as well. This includes maintaining many of the support staff members as well as an office in Hattiesburg in addition to the company’s headquarters in West Dundee, Illinois. The acquisition, which is subject to various standard closing conditions, is expected to close by the end of July, 2010.

As a former developer and team leader on the Business Central project, I am personally pleased to read this news. Along with others, I contributed a significant amount of code to the project, leaving me with a lasting "attachment". Funding and overhead have been the chief hurdles of the maturation of Business Central, and it appears that both are exactly what the project is finally receiving.
